Walking in Ceredigion takes you along the shores of Cardigan Bay to the mountain source of mighty rivers in the Cambrian Mountains.
Ceredigion Coast Path and other coastal walks
Walk the undulating 60 mile route of the Ceredigion Coast Path to enjoy ever changing landscape and views. The Ceredigion Coast path forms part of the Wales Coast Path, and views stretch to the other popular walking destinations of Pembrokeshire and the Llyn Peninsula. From the town beach promenades of Aberporth, Aberaeron, Aberystwyth and Borth to dramatic clifftops and quiet coves between the distinctive Mwnt near Cardigan and the little harbour town of New Quay there’s a wealth of wildlife to spot and heritage to discover. The Ceredigion Coast Path is easy to explore in sections and public transport will enable you to return to base after a rewarding day of walking.
There are plenty of local walking routes to enjoy too. Take a walk developed with our local communities described in the ‘paths for people’ booklet, or ask about local guided walks – there are several walking clubs who arrange regular outings locally as well as annual weekend walking festivals.
Guidebooks and Maps
There is a growing range of walking guidebooks for the Ceredigion coast path and varied walks in the Ceredigion countryside, many authored by locally based walkers who know the best routes from the thousand miles or more of rights of way across the county. For a great selection of books, maps and guides to help you plan your walking holiday or break in Ceredigion, see the Maps, guides, apps and brochures page.
Route updates and problem reporting
From time to time, remedial work has to be undertaken on paths and bridleways, and some routes may be closed because of other work, such as tree felling. In these cases, routes may be temporarily closed to the public. Please check the routes updates page before setting out on your walk.
Should you encounter any problems on your walk, you can report it via an online form to the rights of way team at Ceredigion County Council.
