LLANDYSUL PADDLERS OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTRE

Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Club is based in West Wales and was founded in 1984 by Chris Berry and Trevor Grace. The club has had many great years with membership continuing to increase at a steady pace.

The club has seen lots of changes over the years and the most dynamic of these was “Project 94”. This was a document that was put together to help plan the future of the club.

In 1997 we managed to secure funding from the Local Authority, European backing, the Welsh Canoeing Association and the Foundation for the sports and arts. This was used to start “Project 94” and we managed to develop the two vacant houses next the river Teifi in Llandysul into the clubhouse that is used today.

The main club activities are Slalom, Freestyle, Surf and Canadian Canoeing. We welcome families, disabled, competitive and recreational paddlers. There is no age limit and everyone is welcome.

Call us on the number below for membership fees.

The club is run by a committee that meets every 2 months to discuss future developments.

We hold regular training sessions in Llandysul Swimming Pool and on the river Teifi.

If you would like any further information on the club or you would like to become a member please contact Gareth Bryant on 01559 363209 or email me at the address below.

Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped over the years to make the club such a success, these include: All club members past and present, The Welsh Canoeing association, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion County Council’s, The Sports Council For Wales, Llandysul Angling Association, Llandysul and Pont Tyweli Community Council and the people of Llandysul.

At Adventure Beyond we believe it is very important to operate in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. In all of our activities we aim to have as little impact on the environment as we can, it’s our hope that by operating like this we can preserve these beautiful areas for future generations of adventurers! If like us you care for the environment and would like more information about the locations where we run our activities and how we minimise our impacts, just ask one of our friendly instructors, they will be more than happy to share with you a brief history of the area and suggest ways to minimise the impact whilst on activity.

Coasteering

We provide coasteering sessions in West Wales for all ages and abilities. Looking for a half day’s activity to get the blood pumping, then you’re in the right place.

Coasteering is a mixture of swimming and climbing around the coastline to gain access to inlets, caves and coves that are otherwise inaccessable by most.

To add to the fun we throw in some jumps that will make you shudder and play in some natural features to really get the adrenaline pumping. If you are lucky you will get to see some of the local wildlife. From seals and dolphins to jellyfish and sea birds.

White Water Rafting

With just the right mix of exhilarating fast water and gentle paddling, our white water rafting sessions are one of the best ways to be introduced to this adrenalin packed sport.

On this  adventure you will have the chance to paddle down some of the best white water in the UK, the Teifi River, where the UK Raft Championships were held back in 2012.

This is a great but physical activity for all the family, because of this, the required minimum age is 8 years. We are licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service to provide white water rafting to unaccompanied under 18’s, so this makes a great activity for school’s and colleges.

Canoeing

We can offer you a variety of canoeing activities from a half day to a four day expedition.

Canoeing is one of our more accessible activities and is a really popular choice for people with families of all ages (the minimum age for the activity is 3 and there is no maximum age) why not bring the whole family along for some fun!

Whether you’re looking to learn some canoeing skills, or just looking for a fun and adventurous activity for the whole family to enjoy.

An ideal trip for anyone wanting to pack a lot of adventure into a short day / long half day trip. We start at 10am and finish around 2 depending upon the river conditions and groups ability. This is aimed to be a relaxing trip down the river passing through the gorge, stopping for a packed lunch (not provided) and continuing to Cardigan.

This spectacular journey will take you through the Special Area of Conservation known as the Teifi Gorge.

The gorge was used for slate mining until the less usable slate that had been dumped in the river collected and blocked the gorge off so that no motorised boats could go up the river anymore! Shortly after the mine was abandoned something amazing happened, wildlife came back to the gorge! Hopefully on this trip you will have the chance to see some fantastic creatures like Otters, Red Kites, Salmon, Kingfishers and even Red Deer! This trips start at Llechryd heading to Cardigan and is a great introduction to canoeing.

Rock Climbing / Abseiling

We provide outdoor climbing sessions for the complete beginner to the experienced climber looking for a challenge on natural rock.

The Rock Climbing Experience

Our climbing sessions are ideal for both those who are looking for their first, outdoor rock climbing experience and those looking to improve their skills. We supply the equipment required and one of our skilled instructors will coach you though your session. The routes will be set by the instructor in ascending difficulty. Our climbing sessions are suitable for all ages and is a great confidence builder.

We can also offer more advanced sessions where you will learn how to lead climb, learning how put in solid placements of gear in the rock and nail your belaying technique.

Alongside this you will learn more technical skills and techniques to really improve your climbing ability and knowledge.

Abseiling

Whilst climbers use abseiling out of necessity to get to the bottom of climbs most people consider it to be an interesting activity in itself, we can take groups on abseiling sessions throughout the South/West Wales area.

White Water / River Kayaking

Run the rapids experience

Kayaking is great fun, especially on moving water. Our sessions are centered around making sure you the client has the most amount of fun, whilst still learning key skills in a safe environment.

We provide you with sit on top kayaks which make getting off and on easier, they are also much more stable than sit in kayaks. This is a great activity for those aged 8+ and is perfect those wanting an adrenaline filled activity.

Gorge Walking

Gorge walking combines our experience of rivers and rock to provide an exhilarating day scrambling through the gorges of Wales, you’ll be submitting yourself to the challenges that the natural gorge throws at you.

What is it?

If you are after a wet and wild day out then this is for you. We will jump, squeeze, float or scramble down every rapid, waterfall or canyon we can. You will have an adrenaline packed day to remember. We Gorge Walk at a number of venues within Wales. On arrival we will kit you out in a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet. One of our guides will give you a safety briefing before you get underway.

Our gorge related activities vary due to river/rainfall levels but we have a wide range of venues to choose from so we can provide you with the ideal location to suit the needs of your group – our rivers range from sedate to white and wild. Gorge walking is an all year round activity so ideal for a birthday party activity, a family day out or a stag or hen party.

Raft Building

Join us for a castaway experience…

Raft Building is a problem solving activity that combines both your cognitive and physical skills. It is one of the best team building activities.

Whatever your personal goal, this activity will impact positively on all members of the group involved in the activity.

We use a lake or slow moving river. This can be a standalone activity however lots of groups add this to another activity making a full day.

Bushcraft

What is the difference between bushcraft and survival?

Quite simply, bushcraft is survival skills which are  learnt and practiced so if in the unfortunate event you need to survive in the wild you will have knowledge and skills, applying them to your situation.

Bushcraft has been increasing in popularity since it has been shown on tv with presenters like Bear Grylls and Ray Mears. Which is great to see so many people finding a interest in the outdoors through this outlet.

White Water Tubing

Our tubing sessions consist of learning how to control a rubber ring whilst floating down fast moving white water. This really is a popular activity as it requires no skills to bounce of rocks and float down the river uncontrollably.

As you head through the rapids you will realise how mixing white water and tubes can be. Heading down you’ll be laughing at your friends and family falling out and having a ball playing in the river features.

Sea Kayaking

Our sea kayaking trips are simply the best way to see the stunning coast of South West Wales.

Sea Kayaking with Adventure Beyond is a unique and sublime experience. We are lucky enough to have some of Wales most beautiful coastline on our front door.

You will paddle along at your own pace marvelling at the stunning views of Britain’s only coastal national park whilst you mingle and enjoy the wildlife and natural beauty that surrounds you.

You will be able to witness the coastline from a completely new perspective. We can take advantage of the natural harbours and havens in the area to escape the pressures of the weather if needed, to ensure you enjoy your introduction to sea kayaking.

Surfing

We have been introducing people to our surf sessions since 1997. Our surf sessions are delivered by experienced and trained instructors, some of whom have travelled to destinations such as California, Western Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, the Canaries and Western Europe in search of the perfect wave. Despite all the travelling, they keep coming back to West Wales to take advantage of the year round Atlantic rollers.

We will meet you at the beach working your needs around the tides, winds and height of the swell to ensure you have the best possible chance of riding a wave. You will be provided with a winter wetsuit and once we have had a warm-up we’ll discuss the basic physics of surfing. Are surfing sessions are great for all ages and for all abilities, we will start you off by teaching you the basic skills so you can go off and practice them next time you have a board in your hand.

Hill Walking

Hill walking is a popular outdoor activity that enables you to explore the vast yet beautiful mountain environment at your own pace.

Adventure Beyond has extensive and varied experience of leading and hiking in the hills and mountains in all areas of the UK and many areas overseas including: the Alps (EU), Pyrenees (EU), The Rockies (US), The Southern Alps (NZ), the Atlas Mountains (Morocco) and of course the Himalaya (Nepal).

We offer both fully guided walking sessions and mountain training all over the country. You might just want a local guide to see you through a mountain day or you might want a number of guides to lead a variety of groups, either way we can cater for both. We can also provide you or your group with training too.

Stand up Paddle Boarding

Our SUP sessions are growing in popularity as is the sport itself, If you’re looking for a more sedate activity or an activity with with lot’s of splashes and excitement then stand up paddleboarding is for you.

We can run trips on the river which is all about having a nice relaxing time or we can take you on the sea when it’s flatter, where you can test yourself against the waves.

Stand up Paddleboarding is an activity which can be done in many different ways, from surfing, yoga, racing, and even on white water.

Once you get into it there are many different avenues that you can go down. Sup’ing is great for fitness as it uses not just your arms but your legs, back and core. It’s a great activity for all abilities.
